Done Deal
http://thebronxzoo.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 09/ 07/ done-deal-2/The AP sums it up quite nicely: The Yankees just found out what $209 million can buy: Fourth place. The Yankees got shutdown by Ryan Feierabend. Feierabend is a nobody, and while that has nothing to do with his talent or stuff, it seems unacceptable that the Yankees could have such a poor outing against him.

Bernie Williams Goes to Washington

So does President Bush. On Sunday, Williams traveled to Washington to be a base coach for children playing T-ball on the White House lawn.

Free Agents are the real baseball economy
http://sportsbusinessdigest.com/ ?p=503There are several high profile pitchers, closers, and set up men set to become free agents in MLB. There are also a number of high profile teams (Yankees, Tigers, and Red Sox) who are getting ready to write out some very large paychecks to secure their services. Of these names CC Sabathia is the largest.

Mike Mussina's Quest for 20 Wins
http://bats.blogs.nytimes.com/ 2008/ 09/ 07/ mike-mussinas-quest-for-20-wins/Mike Mussina’s Quest for 20 Wins By Tyler Kepner Tags: Mike Mussina, Yankees The Yanks stayed in third place last night, as you know by now, and they even gained a game in the wild-card race to pull within seven and a half of Boston. “We have 20 games,” Derek Jeter said.

What To Do With First
http://thebronxzoo.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 09/ 07/ what-to-do-with-first/I was perusing posts at WW and read the following: The last time the Yankees had a need at first - due to an aging former-star leaving the team - they went out and made a trade. You remember that one, right? On December 7, 1995, New York sent Russ Davis and Sterling Hitchcock to the Seattle Mariners for Jim Mecir, Jeff Nelson, and some guy named Tino Martinez.

Step Away From The Toilet Seat, Yankee Fans
http://www.sportsbybrooks.com/ step-away-from-the-toilet-seat-yankee-fans-19788As Yankee and Shea Stadiums both come to a close, the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS reports that hardcore fans are looking for keepsakes. And we’re not talking about a picture at the game or a overpriced souvenir soda cups. Apparently, these fans have been listening to Rick Reilly and taking whatever isn’t nailed down.

Matsui hopes to stay in pinstripes
http://www.yankeesbaseballblog.com/ 2008/ 09/ matsui-hopes-to.htmlHideki Matsui and the Yankees haven't ruled out him returning next year with knees healthy enough for him to play the outfield. "He could still play the outfield after the surgery," manager Joe Girardi said of the 34-year-old left fielder who has played 20 games in left and two in right this year, but hasn't been in the field since June 15.

Joe Girardi says Yanks 'not dead yet' after beating Mariners, 7-4
http://www.yankeesbaseballblog.com/ 2008/ 09/ joe-girardi-say.htmlAlthough the Yankees have been clinging to their playoff lives for a few weeks now, many observers have written them off as players in this year's pennant race. Joe Girardi had a message for those folks before Saturday night's 7-4 win over the Mariners. "We're not dead yet," Girardi said.

Matsui & Damon Willing To Play First
http://thebronxzoo.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 09/ 07/ matsui-damon-willing-to-play-fir…Tyler Kepner notes that both Johnny Damon and Hideki Matsui have expressed their willingness to play first base next year. While it’s not their preference, they understand that the Yankees will probably be on the lookout for a new first baseman. At this point, I doubt either would see substantial time there.

I’m A Coke Head
http://thebronxzoo.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 09/ 07/ im-a-coke-head/The Yanks won tonight, which allows them to inch their way up the standings. They gained a game in the AL East and also gained a game in the WC chase. On top of that, Sidney Ponson pitched well (wow) and the offense clicked when it needed to (Abreu, Giambi), so it was a solid win, all around.
