Contrary to popular belief, the acronym "A.D." does not stand for "After Death." It actually stands for "Anno Domini" which is Latin for "In the Year of Our Lord." But in this article we are not going to talk about Anno Domini. We are just going to talk about ads.

William Shakespeare once wrote, "We are advertised by our loving friends." Whether we are talking about a person, a company, product, or even an idea, if you want to get the word out, you must advertise. Simple as that.

The greatest idea will stay locked in a drawer unless it is advertised in some way. The greatest candidate for political office will be stuck sitting watching TV unless there is some sort of ad campaign to promote him or her. And the best company in the world will be stuck operating out of the back office, turning very little revenue, unless there is advertising and marketing put into place.

Most ads are put together by an advertising agency of some sort, but this is not always the case. Spending on advertising alone is estimated to be about $400 billion annually worldwide.
