Adobe Flash is a multimedia platform used to create interactive elements like games or applications on websites. The platform was previously known as Macromedia Flash before the company was acquired by Adobe.

Flash which is a combination of the words Future and Splash is nowadays a common web technology installed on most web browsers as a plug-in. Popular websites like YouTube or Kongregate use Flash to distribute contents on their websites to their users.

Adobe Flash Player is the plug-in which is available for free on common web browsers like Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Internet Explorer but also for mobile devices like cell phones.

Adobe Flash has been criticized for its poor security record, privacy related settings including so called Flash cookies and performance related issues.
