aerosmith
After four decades as one of rock's top bands, Aerosmith may be calling it quits.
In early November 2009, lead vocalist Steven Tyler announced he was leaving Aerosmith. Guitarist Joe Perry however insists they will carry on with or without Tyler.
Aerosmith first rose to prominence in the seventies, racking up a string of hit albums including Toys In The Attic and Rocks. Despite the success, rumors of internal feuding and drug abuse — earning Tyler and Perry their infamous nicknames "The Toxic Twins" — soon led to a split in 1979.
Perry left to form the Joe Perry Project, with fellow guitar slinger Brad Whitford leaving soon after. Tyler meanwhile carried on with replacement guitarists on the album Rock In A Hard Place, scoring a moderate hit with "Lightnin' Strikes."
Perry and Whitford rejoined Aerosmith in 1984 for the Done With Mirrors album. Now "drug-free," Aerosmith went on to renewed success in the eighties and nineties with albums like Permanent Vacation and Pump. A remake of the band's "Walk This Way" with rappers Run-DMC further re-established Aerosmith as one of rock's top bands.
When Aerosmith cancelled a number of dates on their 2009 tour after Tyler fell from the stage during a concert, questions about their future began to surface. The band also postponed a projected 2009 album.
Whether this means a permanent vacation or not, you'll still find Aerosmith fans blogging at sites like Aeroforce and Aerosmith Temple.
