“It is bad enough that people are dying of AIDS, but no one should die of ignorance.” -Elizabeth Taylor.

AIDS
(short for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is a global tragedy. When this disease was first discovered, being diagnosed meant a certain death sentence. But, thanks to advancements and breakthroughs in medical science, this is no longer the case.

Today many people infected with AIDS never cross from being HIV positive to having the full blown disease.

AIDS
has been called the ”dread disease”, because of the symptoms and high risk of death associated with it. But AIDS patients today have a much better chance of never developing symptoms, and pregnant women who are infected can lower the risk of passing it on to their child. Antiviral medications are much more effective today, and can keep the HIV virus from multiplying in the body.

Thanks to advances in medical technology, there is hope today for people living with AIDS.
