Remember the golden age of air travel, when it was tony and glamorous to take a flight, the stewardesses were all dressed in smart designer outfits and a person wouldn’t be caught dead in first class wearing, say, a Juicy Couture track suit? Eh, I don’t either (but I vaguely recall at least getting peanuts and sometimes hot meals included in the price of my ticket).

Today was a very bad day for anyone who travels by air in this country, which is just about everyone. A New York federal appeals court clipped the wings of a first in the nation state law that actually gave airline passengers certain rights; something the airlines refuse to do. The 2nd U.S.

The innovative passenger rights law passed by New York is preempted by a 1978 U.S. statute that relaxed federal regulation of the airline industry. The federal appeals court ruled that allowing individual states to make laws would create a patchwork of laws that should fall under a nationwide federal rule.
