An allergy can best be defined as a reaction to an allergen that the body has been previously exposed to, and which causes an abnormal physical reaction. This can lead to a skin rash, eyes which itch, a nose that runs, and even serious complications in some cases.

An allergy can occur to any substance, and occurs when the body responds excessively to exposure to a specific substances. Some allergies can be very serious, and may require immediate medical attention to prevent permanent harm or even death.

A nut allergy is very common, and can be severe. Some schools require special measures when a student has allergies to peanuts or other nut varieties. Anyone suffering from hypersensitivies to an allergen may be given a prescription for an Epi-Pen, a medical device filled with a carefully determined amount of epinephrine. This treatment can reverse the physical responses of the body to the substance, and prevent serious complications.

A sun allergy is not common, but can affect every aspect of life for an individual who suffers from this condition. The use of jalousie windows may minimize or even prevent sunlight from entering the home, and relieve any allergies caused by this.
