Amazon.com has evolved into a unique and diverse online marketplace. Once primarily a web site for purchasing books and music, Amazon.com has now branched into selling not only these, but other products, accessories, and even putting forth its own technology, such as the Kindle.

Kindle, put out by Amazon Digital Services, is a wireless reading device that allows the user to download and read books that are available for the technology. Amazon’s development of the Kindle has other companies creating similar devices to stay on top of the way the public chooses to read.

Amazon.com now also supplies a full catalog of other technologies and accessories. Amazon has its own iPod store, selling the device as well as carrying cases, ear phones, and offering downloadable songs for the iPod. The new iPad device has already inspired a range of accessories that Amazon carries, such as waterproof covers and iPad carrying cases.

The Amazon Marketplace offers outside merchants a chance to sell online with Amazon backing. Marketplace merchants items are also offered during user searches, allowing their products to be purchased by a user during a single visit to amazon.com.

While still a leading place to purchase books and music, Amazon.com’s diversity in carrying technology like Kindle, accessories for the newest developments like iPad, and allying themselves with other types of merchants has made it a useful place for consumers. The ‘one stop shopping’ feel and helpful on-site reviews make Amazon.com a confidence-inspiring place for online shoppers to make their purchases.
