    Brideshead Re-re–re-revisited…

    http://laurelsnyder.com/ ?p=142

Okay, so in order to write this post I have to confess something– I have an obsession with Brideshead. I know a lot of you will be saying, “Oh, me too… nothing to be ashamed of..” But no.  I have an OBSESSION.  I have read the novel about 20 times. I own the entire miniseries (on VHS, a legacy from my grandfather, who taped it from TV).

Whole Foods Takes on Jammy Dodger Culture

    http://francesrivetti.typepad.com/ blogs/ 2008/ 05/ whole-foods-tak.html

Poured over a lovely, big pile of British daily newspapers which arrived fresh on the coffee table late last night upon return of gallivanting husband from long-distance, extended weekend family festivities at his brother Michael's UK wedding.

    Hungry Like The Wolf

    http://francesrivetti.typepad.com/ blogs/ 2008/ 05/ hungry-like-the.html

British readers and Anglophile friends of a certain age are certain to have teen memories of the UK's most commercially successful 'New Romantic' band of the 80s - Duran Duran. Still together after all of these years, one-time ruffled-shirt-strutting, post-punk, experimental art-school grad, Simon

Oak, Ash and Thorn - May Day of Old

    http://francesrivetti.typepad.com/ blogs/ 2008/ 05/ oak-ash-and-tho.html

Not to make light of the immigrant's plight - hey, I'm a stranger here myself (to quote Bill Bryson, literary idol & bearded sage of the British/American experience), but today is May Day, deep-rooted ancient occasion for outdoor frivolity and celebration, al fresco lovemaking, the gathering of fresh, spring flowers.

Petaluma Mums For Softer Side of Simon

    http://francesrivetti.typepad.com/ blogs/ 2008/ 05/ petaluma-mums-f.html

Who says Simon Cowell is a grouchy old Brit? American Idol fans across the nation have a longstanding love/hate relationship with the English king of plain speak when it comes to Simon's frequently brutal, no-holds-barred critiques of would-be superstar singers.

    Saint George's Day

    http://francesrivetti.typepad.com/ blogs/ 2008/ 04/ saint-georges-d.html

England's Saint George's Day (23rd April) obviously doesn't have the same appeal in America as Saint Patrick's Day, or Bastille Day or Cinco De Mayo for that matter. No prizes for guessing why. And yet it is surprising to many in the U.S.

    Ground Floor

So I'm watching TV and I see a commercial for a new Apatow-related comedy with Mila Kunis, some white guy protagonist who looks vaguely familiar and...Russell Brand? Yeah, that was jarring. I became intimately familiar with Brand during my 6 months in the UK - I think it's a legal requirement.

    Happy Birthday Big Ben

    http://francesrivetti.typepad.com/ blogs/ 2008/ 04/ happy-birthday.html

Here in historic riverfront Petaluma, the Victorian era was just the beginning of anything more industrious than indigenous tribal activity of local native Americans. And as we're celebrating this little city's 150th anniversary this year, there's been a lot of interest in the life and times of those early days in Gold-Rush California and beyond.

DVD Review: Control How can you turn the tragic story of influential singer/songwriter Ian Curtis into a showcase of a talented musician’s unfinished life?  Not an easy task for a music video director to do on his first feature film.
