Animals are a vital part of the lives of human beings. Whether kept as pets or for work, the roles of animals are intertwined with ours.

Pets are animals kept for companionship and enjoyment. Dogs, cats, horses, and birds are some of the most popular pets. 63 percent of all households in the United States own pets. Families who are looking for a new pet might want to steer away from the cute kittens and puppies in the pet shops and consider adopting from an animal shelter.

Some animals are used primarily for work. Draft animals are those with great physical strength, such as elephants, horses, and mules, and they are used in countries all around the world. Other animals that have sharp senses or instincts are used for hunting, herding, and even helping humans (such as seeing-eye dogs).

On the internet, blogs about animals are extremely popular. Everyone loves sharing pictures and stories about their pets, or getting advice from other pet lovers. "I Can Has Cheeseburger" is one of the most popular blogs online, with people submitting pictures of cats and adding funny, misspelled "quotes" from the animals themselves.
