One has to be prepared in the event this market does rally and ANSS seems like a good candidate to challenge it’s all-time highs. It’s sort of walking a tightrope after a Macd crossover where it could go either way, but if the markets move higher this should see new highs.

With option expirations last Friday, many of the options I had written have expired. Generally speaking that was a good thing for me, as it meant I was able to keep the option premium. It also meant that I had to reload many of the positions, which I did yesterday.

I don’t tend to pay much attention to 13Fs, the institutional holdings reports that hedge funds and other large investors are required to file 45 days after the close of the quarter, mostly because there’s only so many filings that my dog — the brain behind footnoted.org — is willing to read.

The technology sector gets a big surprise with Microsoft (MSFT) announcing that it will cease to pursue the acquisition of Yahoo! (YHOO). Most analysts and market pundits expected Jerry Yang & Company would ultimately accept a deal, albeit at a higher price than Microsoft’s initial offer.

This morning Ansys (ANSS) announced it would buy Ansoft (ANST) for $16.25 per share in cash and 0.431882 shares of Ansys. A conference call discussing the deal will be webcast at 11:30 EST. Ansoft is a leading developer of high-performance EDA software.
