    Blogger Blahs...

    http://thommalyn.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 08/ blogger-blahs.html

...but not Writer Blahs, thank goodness! I broke 76K on Heart's Chalice and expect to hit 80K soon. I've got 100K as the benchmark for my little word count widget in my side bar, but truly, I don't know how long this story will be. The story will tell me. As long as the end result winds up between 70K and 100K, that's fine.

    Writing Meme

    http://thommalyn.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 08/ writing-meme-and-other-stuff.html

Have I done this meme before? Honestly, I can't remember. Anyhow, I saw it at Julia's and thought it looked like fun. 1. List one of your writing goals for the upcoming month and how likely you are to accomplish it. By the end of September, I would love to finish rough-drafting (the rewrite of) Heart's Chalice.

I apologize for not being chatty on my blog these days. I've been pouring my energies into my novel-in-progress Heart's Chalice and into hiking (which, in turn, further inspires my story). But I'm still here. I saw my doctor yesterday - looks like no surgery, at least in the near future.

The Cherokee name Jocassee means "Place of the Lost One,” and what a fitting description that is for the South Carolina lake that bears its name, and for its sister lake, Lake Keowee. In 1974, Duke Energy Corporation finished construction of the Oconee Nuclear Station on the Keowee River in Oconee County, SC.

More Notes From the Happy Hiker

    http://thommalyn.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 08/ more-notes-from-happy-hiker.html

Had a wonderful hike today -- felt even better on this hike than on Sunday's hike. My improved eating habits are helping immensely to mitigate what I believe to be wonky gallbladder symptoms. Thank goodness. :) Here are some pictures of the woods and the trail: The mountain laurel blooms have passed their peak and most of them have wilted away and fallen off.

On Hiking, Writing, and My Gallbladder

    http://thommalyn.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 08/ on-hiking-writing-and-my-gallbladder.ht…

I feel better now! I went on a hike, my first since Monday, and oh, how I needed it. I'd missed the mountains so much! If I go too long without hiking, I grow restless and irritable. I crave the physical exercise, sure, but even deeper than that, I crave the peace, beauty, and splendor of the mountains.

Last month the Bristol, TN Herald Courier published an article that discussed a new management technique for keeping the balds on Roan Mountain intact. The article stated that the Appalachian Trail Conservancy had just announced that they will be testing the use of a small herd of angora goats this

    Progress Report

    http://thommalyn.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 07/ progress-report.html

So far so good on Heart's Chalice. I'm up to Chapter Four now (still tweaking it, hope to get Chapter Five going tonight). My new chapters 1-4 are better than my previous chapters 1-4, so that's progress. :) Had a nice hike yesterday, and managed to get a few pictures before a surprise thunderstorm hit.
