    http://edbrenegar.typepad.com/ leading_questions/ 2008/ 08/ quick-takes-spe.html

Over the summer, those of us who enjoy hiking in our southern Appalachian mountains have been following the exploits of Jen Pharr Davis. She's a local woman who recently set the record for a woman to hike the Appalachian Trail. She hiked the entire 2175 miles in 57 days, 8 hours and 35 minutes.

The world in a different perspective

    http://run4chocolate.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 08/ 28/ the-world-in-a-different-persp…

Jump to Comments I’ve been reading Bill Bryson’s A Walk in the Woods and thought I’d commune with him, sorta, by riding the mountain bike along the Appalachian Trial along South Mountain ridgetops. It’s been really dry lately, so I figured the familiar path would be packed solid.  Just the perfect stuff for biking thru the woods.

There's so much to Unaka Mountain I have yet to discover. I'm grateful to Hiking Bill for generously sharing his experience and pointing the way to Flat Rock Overlook and also for encouraging me to the hike to the top of Unaka Mountain (elev. 5,180 feet).

On the Appalachian Trail - 1

    http://simplisticart.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 08/ on-appalachian-trail-1.html

The planned hike to cover the Appalachian Trail (AT) in NJ turned out to be a complete disaster. New hiking shoes whose soles separated, a bad knee joint that acted up and an unnaturally humid day that seemed to sap all of our energies plotted to make the hike a non starter.

Appalachian Assault: Trouble On The Trail

    http://theadventureblog.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 08/ appalachian-assault-trouble-on-t…

Rough news from WheresKarl.com today, where we learn that endurance runner Karl Meltzer spent much of the day in the hospital where he was diagnosed with trench foot due to his 300 plus miles on rough trail with wet feet. It's a good news/bad news situation however, as the pain that Karl was feeling was first thought to be the result of a stress fracture or blood clots.

    Podcast: Adventure Edge Radio-Episodes 4 & 5

    http://skinnymoose.com/ adventurist/ 2008/ 08/ 20/ podcast-adventure-edge-radio-…

The Sierra Blogging Post has released two more podcasts of Adventure Edge Radio with Jimmy Buff.  I have been following this series since it’s inception and it has proven to be quite a resource for adventure news and information.  Somehow I got behind a week with my updates to the podcast, but that’s alright because I am making up for it today by giving you a double dose.

Karl Meltzer’s Appalachian Trail Record Attempt is Over

    http://news.runtowin.com/ 2008/ 08/ 20/ karl-meltzers-appalachian-trail-record-a…

Back on August 5th, Karl Meltzer began his attempt to run the 2,147 mile Appalachian Trail in a record 47 days. The run may not be over, but his attempt at the record is: “My Anterior Tibialas is tweaking. It’s swollen and unrunnable right now.

    that subtle something

    http://appalachiantreks.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 08/ that-subtle-something.html

It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit.--Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) Scottish AuthorAbove: A scene along the Appalachian

    Well Folks……..we have an issue

    http://karlmeltzer.com/ ?p=134

My Anterior  Tibialas is tweaking.  It’s swollen and unrunnable right now.  Needless to say, the record will remain in AT’s (Andrew Thompson) hands.  My plan now is to pop vitamin P (Prednisone) for a few days and see what happens, along with ice baths a few times a day.  I am not quitting yet,
