artistry

Just because nobody understands you, doesn't make you an artist. And just because someone once called you a "work of art" under their breath also does not make you an artist. It takes more than that. A lot more.

Oscar Wilde once quipped, "Art - in order to be art - must be completely useless." Although funny, most people understand that good artistry opens new worlds for our recognition and nourishment. It opens our minds and our hearts. It opens our imagination. Artistry is bigger than just you and me. In fact, it is bigger than life itself. It is art. And, at the end of the day, it is the only truly useful thing in the world.

So whether you are creating a sculpture, writing a poem, putting on a puppet show, or just acting the part of pick up artist at a local bar — that is artistry. And when it comes right down to it, that's what life is all about.
