An ashtray is a receptacle, made from heat resistant plastic or glass, for people to ash or butt their cigarettes or cigars.
With the advent of the Internet and eCommerce, strangely you will find that people buy ashtrays online, including everything from small tin ashtrays to perhaps vintage, decorative or crystal ashtrays.
More so in the past than today, an ashtray was standard equipment in automobiles. With more people becoming aware of the ill effects of smoking, and laws preventing parents from smoking in their cars with children present, an ashtray is no longer standard.
