    First Time Guests Want Information

    http://www.churchleaderinsights.com/ blog/ 2008/ 08/ 29/ first-time-guests-want-…

First Time Guests want to get information about your church when they are ready to receive it - not when you want to give it to them. So the question to ask yourself is: Are you making information about your church readily available to your guests?

    http://www.churchleaderinsights.com/ blog/ 2008/ 08/ 28/ first-time-guests-want-…

On Tuesday I said that an unchurched first time guest wants at least three things… 1. To fit in with everyone else attending 2. To be anonymous 3. To get more information as they are ready Let’s talk about #1 today. A first time guest wants to fit in with everyone else attending.

    Professional Women’s Golf: English Only

    http://www.asian-nation.org/ headlines/ 2008/ 08/ professional-womens-golf-engli…

I presume that most of you have heard about various campaigns aimed at making English the official language of the U.S., or a particular state, or some other entity or institution. In recent decades, such campaigns have had some successes.

    Members Reception Today

    http://www.churchleaderinsights.com/ blog/ 2008/ 08/ 24/ members-reception-today…

Today I’m hosting a brief reception for members after each of our services. It will be a 30 minute reception where I cast vision for the fall and provide key updates to our members.  The basic purpose for this is similar to the Newcomers Reception (which I wrote about here) but the focus is on members.

    Assimilation Or Separation?

    http://patrioticactivist.com/ 2008/ 08/ 20/ assimilation-or-separation/

There’s been another email message circulating the inner-body of cyberspace like a virus, or an anti-body, depending upon how you look at it. Even though the news is old hat, the email still attempts to drum-up support for Australia’s Prime Minister, John Howard, who lit the fuse to Australia’s Muslim community with seemingly un-PC remarks about Muslim extremists.

Have You Called Your Office Lately?

    http://www.churchleaderinsights.com/ blog/ 2008/ 08/ 21/ have-you-called-your-of…

Here’s a great exercise… call your church office with a basic question like “what time are your services?” Or better yet, have a have friend do it. Then, sit back and see what happens. Are you able to reach a live person? If so, is the greeting friendly? Do they know how to transfer a call?

English an official U.S. Language? A myth or oppression?

    http://proinmigrant.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 08/ english-official-us-language-myth-or…

Official English and English-only policies are founded upon the myth that the primacy of the English language is somehow under threat. In fact, more than 94 percent of our country’s population speaks English, according to the last Census. This confirms that the problem English-only laws are designed to address simply does not exist.

    This collective sense of doom

    http://nobodypasses.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 08/ this-collective-sense-of-doom.html

I love this series called Passing on the Pen at the GLBT Historical Society -- although I don't like saying "GLBT," that's its name, right? Anyway, the series, curated by mystery writer Michael Nava, consists of writers in conversation -- last week it was Trebor Healey and Karl Soehnlein.
