Avaya Inc. is a privately held telecommunications equipment manufacturer headquartered in Baskin Ridge, New Jersey, U.S.A.
The company was formed in 2000 as a spin-off of the enterprise communications department of Lucent Technologies - itself an earlier spin-off of the equipment manufacturing and research division of AT&T.
Through its formation and AT&T Network Systems origins, Avaya has inherited established small, medium-size and enterprise scale telephone system product lines as well as the corresponding part of the engineering and research capabilities of Bell Laboratories.
Today Avaya Inc. employs approx. 20,000 people worldwide and manufactures and markets such equipment and services as
- Unified Communications (telephone, email, IM and video)
- Telephone Systems (PBX)
- Call Centers (Contact Centers)
- Data Networking
- Avaya Global Services (Consulting and Implementation)
Avaya's prominent product lines include Avaya Aura (formerly Communication Manager) , IP Office digital/IP PBX, Partner ACS key telephone system, One-X communications applications and a whole range of digital and IP telephone sets.
After its acquisition of the enterprise communications products from Nortel in 2009 Avaya is in the process of integrating Nortel's products into its own offering.
