Back, like a lot of English words, means different things in different situations. Whether it be coming and going (back and forth), supporting a cause (backing with funds or effort), moving towards the end of a particular location (in the very back), or just trying to get some decent sleep on your back (the opposite side of your front) with a good latex mattress, it's all "back."

The human back has many muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, and bones. The spine, the column of bones that help to hold a person upright consists of 12 thoracic vertebrae, 5 lumbar vertebrae, and 5 sacral vertebrae. The back is a source of pain to around 31 million people at any given time.
