At a performance a few years ago by the feminist theatre troupe Vox Feminista, I watched one of their signature, always confrontational, short films. Their theme for the evening was “white privilege,” and the film involved members of the troupe asking passerby on the street to say something about white privilege.

Once upon a time, when I was too young to have any defense or response, I was kicked out of the vacant lot where my brother and his friends played softball. Curious about the game that was about to start, I ventured up to the umpire, a freckled boy older than my brother, and not from our neighborhood.

I haven’t had much time this week to write, unfortunately, due to various competing stressors in my personal life — the latest of which is the news that I’ll have to move again, oh, joy! So I thought I’d recycle this book review I wrote for a bookstore newsletter a few years back.

Last fall, I talked about Martine Sitbon's ever so elegant pebbled bucket bag, and having a hunch about the bag being a creation of a French designer before finding out who was behind it. Now that I knew what Sitbon's delicate touches looked like, I recognized right away that this peachy rose petal colored (paging Qui, Qui to The Baggage Claim), pleated bag had Martine Sitbon's name on it.

Seems like I'm doing a lot of revisiting lately, first with the Valentino Histoire, and now the Bulga multi zip tote. You heard all about my short-lived love affair with a dark brown version of this bag and the issues I had with the multiple pockets. That said, this bright, luscious coral color is beckoning to me for a second look.

When it comes to Marc Jacobs, I am not sure if he is just talented and brilliant in a multifaceted manner, or sometimes kind of schizophrenic, or simply has a workshop full of random people coming up with equally random craziness.

I think I am beginning to get obsessed with Anya Hindmarch bags. I decided I must have one, and believe the Elrod woven leather tote is as good as an Anya Hindmarch bag will ever get. You know how I feel about the Beverly woven bag, but perhaps something a little less shiny yet equally exquisite in detail, like the Elrod, might be suitable for everyday use.

The Valentino Histoire is back on my radar, this time, in snow white. Yeah yeah, I remember what I said about the mini version Zahara Jolie-Pitt was seen carrying in her tiny, fashionable arms, but if she (or Angelina, their nanny, or whoever ends up doing the cleaning) has been able to keep it clean and white, maybe I can, too.
