Research shows that baldness is mostly a genetically-caused problem. This is not the only type of baldness that occurs in people, however. There are some syndromes that give rise to people pulling their hair out, and we're not talking about the Parenthood Syndrome, but rather Trichotillomania. Thyroid disease could also be a contributor.

When the topic of baldness is discussed, it mostly revolves around hair loss in men, but this is not to rule out that it can happen in women, and even children can suffer from baldness. Alopecia Areata is a type of baldness where there are small, circular patches of baldness that occur on the scalp.


Baldness can also be chemically induced. A rigorous Chemotherapy protocol often causes a person to have complete hair loss for a time. Often, the hair will grow back, but varies in timing from person to person. Other causes of baldness can be hormonal in nature.
