The term bandwidth refers to the range of frequencies that an electronic device communicates on. Bandwidth therefore denominates the difference between a high frequency signal and a low frequency signal component, and is measured in hertz. In reference to the Internet, the term can also refer to the amount of traffic that can occur at a given time on a website.

Bandwidth
describes the amount of information that can be transferred from one place to another, usually in a given amount of time. Bandwidth is typically measured in bits of data per second (bps), or bytes per second (Bps).

Generally, a link that carries high bandwidth can open enough data to support a long video.

A website hosting company connects computers via the Internet at all times. To launch a website on the Internet, website owners will resort to the services of a website host. They use servers and assign IP numbers that can be located by other computers when doing an Internet search. The website hosting company allows clients to design and upload files, while the data on the website is stored on their servers so that it can be accessed by others when they navigate to the correct web address.

The amount of bandwidth website hosting companies can provide for each website is determined by the server that hosts it, as well as its Internet connection. Web pages can range from small to large, with website hosting companies allowing clients to choose the amount of bandwidth they need when they set up their websites.

The amount of bandwidth a website owner needs is determined by the amount of content and images they plan to place on their website and the amount of traffic they expect to generate. The less people that are expected to view the website, the less bandwidth that is needed.

Broadband technology companies are now working on increasing bandwidth in institutions that need it most. They are providing the means for training and teaching those that would otherwise not have access to computer programs and digital training opportunities.
