Saturday Stuffs: No Moa Da' Kine's National City, What's this about Drive-thru Banh Mi, A Surprise at Sammy's, and other "stuffs"
http://mmm-yoso.typepad.com/ mmmyoso/ 2008/ 08/ saturday-stuf-1.htmlJust some Miscellanea for the weekend: No Moa Da Kine's National City, La Dat: I've been thinking about doing another plate lunch week, and it seems that I always do at least one post on Da' Kine's. After all, they've been around over a decade. So, back in July I had a plate lunch at Da' Kine's, and decided to drop by one more time a few weeks ago.

Hanoi Eats on Saigon Streets
http://gastronomyblog.com/ 2008/ 08/ 04/ hanoi-eats-on-saigon-streets/As the self-proclaimed Gastronomer, I’m usually the one introducing friends to unknown eateries and the one in charge of coordinating group meals. However, Hawkins recently turned the tables and planned an awesome lunch at a hidden away bun cha joint in District 1.

Banh Xeo 46A
http://www.eatingintranslation.com/ 2008/ 08/ banh-xeo-46a.htmlYou'll get a look at the specialty of the house before you even sit down. Stateside, they're commonly called "Vietnamese crepes," but the thin, crisp exterior of a banh xeo (Bahn say-Oh; 20,000 dong, or about $1.20 at the time) is prepared from rice flour, not eggs, and the namesake item at 46A is anything but common.

BaLe Linda Vista Reopens
http://mmm-yoso.typepad.com/ mmmyoso/ 2008/ 07/ bale-linda-vist.htmlSo finally, Ba Le on Linda Vista resurfaces. The sign on the "old location" said the end of May, but when I took that photo it was already June! And when I shopped a Vien Dong Market a few days later, that sign was gone. This past weekend, I noticed that Ba Le had indeed taken the place of the old Dai Tan Supermarket, which had been there for quite a while.
