Saturday Stuffs: No Moa Da' Kine's National City, What's this about Drive-thru Banh Mi, A Surprise at Sammy's, and other "stuffs"
http://mmm-yoso.typepad.com/ mmmyoso/ 2008/ 08/ saturday-stuf-1.htmlJust some Miscellanea for the weekend: No Moa Da Kine's National City, La Dat: I've been thinking about doing another plate lunch week, and it seems that I always do at least one post on Da' Kine's. After all, they've been around over a decade. So, back in July I had a plate lunch at Da' Kine's, and decided to drop by one more time a few weeks ago.

BaLe Linda Vista Reopens
http://mmm-yoso.typepad.com/ mmmyoso/ 2008/ 07/ bale-linda-vist.htmlSo finally, Ba Le on Linda Vista resurfaces. The sign on the "old location" said the end of May, but when I took that photo it was already June! And when I shopped a Vien Dong Market a few days later, that sign was gone. This past weekend, I noticed that Ba Le had indeed taken the place of the old Dai Tan Supermarket, which had been there for quite a while.

Banh Mi Sau Minh
http://www.eatingintranslation.com/ 2008/ 07/ banh-mi-sau-min.htmlThat funky mystery sauce closed the sale. What was in it, I can't say for sure; it was fishy, perhaps even fermented, and just a tad spicy. Compared with your typical New York banh mi, this sandwich was slathered with much more sauce and mayo; the veggies were chunkier and laced with onion, too.

Hope and Anchor Diner (Redhook)
http://flyboyz.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 07/ 23/ hope-and-anchor-diner-redhook/I’m not going to lie, the reason why I checked out Hope and Anchor is because I figured there had to be something close to Lenell’s that serves reasonably good food and is open for lunch (sorry, Good Fork) and I was right. I recently went to Hope and Anchor after picking up some bourbon, ouzo [...]

Hope & Anchor
http://www.eatingintranslation.com/ 2008/ 07/ hope-anchor.htmlI hardly expected a Vietnamese sandwich, and to be sure, the bun was too soft and the patty, too hefty. But a little cilantro — in the company of spicy mayo, julienned carrots, and a thin slice of ham — goes a long way when you're building a "banh mi burger" ($8). The fries were a little limp, but the diner atmosphere was lively.

Love Letter to the Twin Cities

Besides the “royalty” of the State Fair carved into butter busts, the TC has some spectacular art.

Hanoi: Banh My & Banh Bao
http://mmm-yoso.typepad.com/ mmmyoso/ 2008/ 05/ hanoi-banh-my-b.htmlUp North They Spell it Banh My: Yes, in Hanoi they spell it "Banh My", not Banh Mi. And most of the stands we came across only have 2 basic types; Banh My Pate(where you choose your meat), and Banh My Trung(egg). I had thought about not doing this post since I never managed to take a good photo of the Banh My in Hanoi, even though we had a few of them.
