bar

Bar is one of those all-purpose words that can refer to any number of things. But in common usage, a bar
probably refers most often to a place where people drink adult beverages. Since drinking in a bar can often lead to troubles with the law, it is not surprising that references to a bar can also have legal meanings.

American lawyers belong to the American Bar Association, an organization which provides information about the law, as well as law school accreditation (hence the term "passing the bar"). If a person is not careful, getting into trouble with the law can also land one behind bars.

A Bar can also refer to a unit of pressure that is roughly equal to the atmospheric pressure on Earth at sea level.
Bars are also often used for protection or security, such as those found on some homes or businesses.
