Join the Discussion about the next BarCampOrlando
http://rorblog.techcfl.com/ 2008/ 07/ 01/ join-the-discussion-about-the-next-bar…The last BarCampOrlando was a brilliant success, and at the same time, spurred a lot of conversation about what is/is not BarCamp. Now is the time to start planning the next one, and the folks over at Create Chaos are presenting us with an opportunity to hold BarCampOrlando at Create Chaos.

Training Gmail: Sit. Stay. Good Gmail.
http://www.timrosenblatt.com/ blog/ 2008/ 04/ 14/ training-gmail-sit-stay-good-g…At the end of my presentation on Bayes’ Theorem at BarCampOrlando, there was some Q&A time. I was asked a question about automatically training a spam filter, and I got into explaining how Bayesian filtering isn’t a “spam test” per-se.

Orlando has a great geek community, who knew?
http://log.joshuablount.com/ 2008/ 04/ 13/ orlando-has-a-great-geek-community-wh…I’ve lived in the greater central florida area my entire life, but I never realized how cool and connected a good segment of that community can be. This weekend was BarCamp Orlando 2008 and it was fantastic. The event was put on by a team including Greg Pollack from Rails Envy, as well as a small team of loosely connected companies.

Barcamp Orlando 08 Media Day
http://www.dankinchen.com/ 2008/ 04/ 10/ barcamp-orlando-08-media-day/Day 2 of Barcamp Orlando started slow, either everyone was hung over from the Izea party at church or something because we did not have a large turnout initially. Ryan Price had to put together a quick presentation on request. By 12:00 the board was still pretty light with presentations, so I decided to post a talk on Search Engine Optimization.

Barcamp Orlando 08 IZEA Geek Out After Party
http://www.dankinchen.com/ 2008/ 04/ 10/ barcamp-orlando-08-izea-geek-out-after-…So I went to the IZEA after party in the same office building that I had almost purchased a 1,000 square foot shell of an office that was only going to cost $200,000.00 at the time. (Which by the way was a STEAL, but the $500.

Barcamp Orlando 08 Dev Day
http://www.dankinchen.com/ 2008/ 04/ 10/ barcamp-orlando-08-dev-day/I was so excited about Barcamp Orlando 08 that I arrived half an hour early before volunteer show up time. This was fine though because I had to find a place to park, so it all worked out fine. The volunteers and I got both rooms filled with chairs, the registration tables setup, the white board brought down from NFI and the audio/visual setup.

Barcamp Orlando 08 Mailing List
http://www.dankinchen.com/ 2008/ 04/ 10/ barcamp-orlando-08-mailing-list/Barcamp Orlando 08 Mailing List I got an email sent out over the Barcamp Orlando 08 mailing list. The title is “Who would you invite to a talk about the state of the industry?” which was sent out Ryan Price. After reading the email I have to admit I felt a little weird about it.

Web Entrepreneur Meetup April 08
http://www.dankinchen.com/ 2008/ 04/ 10/ web-entrepreneur-meetup-april-08/I went to my monthly Web Entrepreneur Meetup in April (which I was recently made the co-director) and was surprised at the lack of the number of people that showed up. We still had a good group of about 10 or so but not the number that had reserved, which is typical for most of the Meetups I have been to.

BarCampOrlando 2008 a Success
http://rorblog.techcfl.com/ 2008/ 04/ 07/ barcamporlando2008-a-success/BarCampOrlando 2008 was a brilliant success. There were more than 400 registrants for both Dev and Media day. On DevDay, the two rooms for talks were quickly filled with speakers and audience. A great thing to see were the Courtyard Discussions, made up of self-organizing groups discussing various topics and helping each other with challenges.

BarCampOrlando After Party
http://www.adamfortuna.com/ 2008/ 04/ 05/ barcamporlando-after-party/Izea put on a great (open bar) after party dubbed Geek Out ‘08 that bogged down their office with wet geeks. I was completely soaked from the knees down, but enjoyed geeking out in both games and tech talk. They had 2 entire rooms devoted to Rock Band, and others for Wii Sports, Smash Brothers Brawl and Halo 3.
