Well, the thank you notes to sponsors and volunteers have been written and mailed, the venue has been cleaned up, and the accounting for funds spent has been dealt with. beCamp 2008 is officially complete, and what a wonderful experience it has been!

Yesterday I went to beCamp 2008 along with four roomfuls of other people interested in technology (perhaps close to 100 people total). The conference was a lot of fun. Not everything went as planned, but that was as planned. This was an Open Spaces conference and I thought it worked very well.

beCamp, Charlottesville, VA Friday and Saturday I participated in beCamp here in Charlottesville, VA (I might win the award for least distance traveled for my four block walk to the event). For the unitiated, beCamp is a variant of BarCamp, an open, participant-driven event, where the schedule, content and discussions are created and led by the participants for the participants.

I am in Charlottesville attending becamp and I just talked about Ramaze, a lightweight web application framework written in Ruby. My slides are below. They are also on scribd. We had a very good group here and some interesting talks. I particularly enjoyed the talk on High Performance MySQL by Baron Schwartz.

Today I’m attending beCamp at the offices of CBIC on the downtown mall in Charlottesville.  There have been some very interesting sessions already and attendance is great.  I suggested one session, which we just had this morning.  I titled the session “How to choose languages - .NET vs Ruby vs Java vs Php vs ?”.

I’m going to be at beCamp 2008, the followup to the first beCamp, which I sadly missed. beCamp is a BarCamp un-conference. Tonight was about meeting, greeting, and throwing ideas at the wall to see which ones stick. Literally.
