Ahhhhh. Bed. That hallowed sanctuary where we all go to lay our heavy heads after another long day in the proverbial Rat Race. Is there any better feeling than laying down and feeling yourself drift into the land of make-believe? And is there any worse feeling than trying to get out of bed the next morning?

Beds are many different things to many different people:

1). For kids, beds can be a punishment. Were you ever threatened by your father who said you might have to go to bed without supper?

2). Bed is sometimes a hairdresser. So much so that a term has been coined to describe hair after sleep. It is aptly called "Bed Head."

3). When you were younger, was bed ever a protection? Did you ever think you would be safe from the monsters in your closet if you simply crawled under your covers? As if the talons and teeth of the dragon could not penetrate cotton and flannel? If the bedding wasn't enough, there was always the drawer of the divan bed in which to hide.

Yes, beds are many different things to many different people, but they are an indispensable way of life for almost everyone in the world.
