Bing is a web search engine from Microsoft. It was originally known as Live Search, Windows Live Search and MSN Search and it went live on June 3rd, 2009.


Bing came with several exciting new interface features, including a list of related searches on the left side of the browser, ommonly called the "Explore pane". The right side of the browser hosts extensive previews which show a larger view of the selected page and offer URLs to links on the page. Much like other popular browsers, Bing can also display instant answers to a variety of relatively simple tasks, such as advanced computations, dictionary entries, sports and finance info, health information and instant translations. Bing's user interface ultimately aims to facilitate easier and faster browsing, while also benefiting website owners who have invested in search engine optimisation.

In July 2009, Microsoft struck a deal with Yahoo!, by which Bing would be used to power Yahoo! Search. By early 2012, all Yahoo! Search customers and partners are expected to have transitioned to Bing. In addition to this, Bing can become integrated with both Hotmail and Facebook, as well as fitted with a variety of widgets and plug-ins.

Search engine optimisation with Bing is focused primarily on delivering high quality websites that are genuinely helpful to readers. Some of its core principles include the development of relevant, original content with well implemented keywords geared towards a target audience, but also well anchored code and multiple, authoritative inbound links. Consequently, much of the legitimate, traditional SEO strategies that webmasters will usually opt for are also suited for Bing, and SEO made specifically for this search engine will likely boost a website's rank in other search engines as well.

Bing's official guidelines for successful indexing provide a number of recommendations concerning technical and content issues, but also address an array of known problems that may negatively impact a website's rank. Bing's Webmasters Center Blog conveys the latest info and updates on the search engine, with users having the ability to subscribe to an RSS feed. Lastly, webmasters can register webpages with the Bing Webmaster tools, which enable them to review a lot of interesting info about their websites.
