Birthstones are, for the most part, gemstones that represent a persons birthday and where it falls on the Gregorian Calendar.

Culture differences or other factors may decide on what are the proper birthstones for a birth date. For example, it is traditionally accepted that Garnet is the birthstone for January, while some may consider the Emerald the birthstone for January.

Widely accepted are the following birthstones for each month: garnet for January, amethyst for February, bloodstone for March, diamonds for April, emerald for May, pearls for June, ruby for July, peridot for August, sapphire for September, opal for October, topaz for November and turquoise for December.
