blagojevich
Rod R. Blagojevich, 40th governor of Illinois, was born Milorad Blagojevic on December 10, 1956. Born and raised in Chicago, he graduated from Northwestern University and received a law degree from Pepperdine University. After serving in both the Illinois House of Representatives and Illinois Senate, Blagojevich was elected governor in 2002. In December 2008, he was arrested on federal corruption charges, impeached by the Illinois House of representatives, and found guilty and removed from office by the Illinois Senate in January 2009.
The Federal government first took Blagojevich to court on 24 corruption charges in 2010, but failed to make their case, and the jury deadlocked on all but one minor charge of lying to the FBI. After his first trial, Blagojevich mounted a massive PR campaign in an effort to clear his name, even appearing the reality show Celebrity Apprentice. In 2011, U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald retried Blogojevich, who was convicted of 17 counts of corruption on June 27, 2011. He is married to Patricia Mell Blagojevich, and they have two daughters, Amy and Anne.
