The term blog is a contraction of the word weblog. It is used to describe a website or web page which is typically maintained by an individual who posts brief entries regularly on an unlimited number of subjects. Blogs are often considered an online diary of sorts, and articles cover topics encompassing every possible subject matter. Entries are typically listed in reverse chronological order

Blogs are often categorized by genre. Some may offer commentary or opinion, while others report facts and are an actual source of news. A typical blog often includes pictures of the subject, and links to other blogs or websites that discuss the subject, or contain statistical facts on the subject.

A personal blog is often based on opinion and is the most common type. An example can be found in this blog entry on MySpace, or a personal site such as Love Me Two Times. Still others combine articles from a number of bloggers in order to form online magazines such as Blogcritics.org, and exemplify the highest standards in blogging.
