The blog search engine is an example of the search world going vertical, slicing up the space so users can better find exactly what they are looking for in the Blogosphere.

Blog search engines work using a variety of methodologies, depending on the site. Most use the tags provided by bloggers to determine which results will show up. Some use keywords gathered from the text of a blog. Others use metadata that they are able to pick up from sites that are indexed by their spiders. Blog search engines also accept submissions of blogs to their sites as a way to make sure that all blogs can find a way to the eyes of their users.

Current players in the blog search engine space include 2RSS, Bloglines, Bloogz, Feedster, Google, Read A Blog, and Technorati.
