BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke AG) is a German car and motorcycle manufacturer founded in 1916; it is known for luxury and performance vehicles including the MINI Cooper and is the parent company of Rolls Royce Motor Cars.
In 2006 the total world production for BMW was 1,366,838 vehicles produced in five countries (Germany, UK, Austria, South Africa and the US). Since 2006 production has also begun in Chennai, India. The World Headquarters are in Munich, Germany. In February, 2009 the Oxford, England Plant downsized 850 jobs; creating controversy as there was only one hour notice and no redundancy pay.
