Dreaming of Blurbs from Stephenie Meyer

    http://rocketgirlsgrog.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 05/ dreaming-of-blurbs-from-stephenie…

Last night I had a dream that I was at Stephenie Meyer’s house—yeah, that Stephenie Meyer, creator of the Twilight series, named one of the most influential people of 2008 by Time magazine. She was gracious and elegant, in spite of the obnoxious fans who came right up to her doorstep and harassed her.

    Why I love some BREs....not

    http://slunch.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 05/ why-i-love-some-bresnot.html

So, a lovely publicist friend just passed this along to me. For those of you too lazy to click through, it's a Publishers Weekly blog entry by Editor-in-Chief Sara Nelson, entitled "Why I Love (Some) Publicists." Bascially, Sara acknowledges that we have a hard job (duh) and face constant rejections (sigh, it's amazing we retain any self esteem).

    How To Promote Your Writing

    http://www.thepublishingspot.com/ 2008/ 05/ how_to_promote_your_writing.html

The work doesn't stop when you publish your book. Earlier this week Ed Park--my editor at The Believer and one of my favorite literary essay-writers, published his first novel. It's called Personal Days, and he's taking off for a book tour as we speak.

    Call for visual artists.

    http://jenashmen.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 05/ 14/ call-for-visual-artists/

This is almost the complete page I’ll be submitting for the 2009 Diary Project. The book will feature over 365 artists. I think she still needs a few pages done before July 1st. Check it out here: http://www.fantazya.ca/diary2009.html I think the fun part will be seeing how many, if any, more hits I get on the upcoming date of January 17th.

    Retire the catalog mailout.

    http://phenixpublicity.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 05/ retire-catalog-mailout.html

HarperCollins just announced an eco-friendly industry move - online catalogs! According to the AP, Penguin (USA) and Random House are moving in a similar direction. Mike Merschel over at the Dallas Morning News just blogged his thoughts on the possible industry shift, confirming a little inkling I had.

Thirteen Rules for Publicizing Your Book

    http://yvonneperry.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 05/ thirteen-rules-for-publicizing-your.h…

by Mark David Gerson 1) There are no rules. What worked for your last book may not work on this one. What worked for your friend’s book may not work for yours. Publicity is an art not a science. Feel out what works and go with it. If something doesn’t seem to be working, let it go.

Launch Party Success May 12, 2008 – 12:30 pm Despite all my nervous nilly ways, last week’s launch party was a huge success and in hindsight, I needn’t have been nervous. 120 people attended at the bookstore. 100 copies of Mrs. Perfect were sold–plus thirty more of Odd Mom and Flirting and Frog.
