botswana
Botswana is the 47th largest country in the world. It is geographically flat and is covered by the Kalahari Desert, accounting for 70% of its entire area.
It is 600,370 km², making it comparable in size to Madagascar. Most of the country's population base is located in the eastern savannah grasslands, along its borders with South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Because of the country's diverse areas of wildlife habitat, the economy fares well in part to safari holidays taken by tourists.
However, even with Botswana's conservation practices and extensive nature preserves, economic activity is still dominated by mineral extraction which is made up, for the most part, of diamond mining.
The official languages of Botswana are English and Setswana.
