Another day, another batch of new videos. In this rotation, a band that EF has long been a fan of (Bowerbirds), a band that we’ve recently gotten to know - and that you now know a bit more about thanks to Leo’s great guest piece on Wednesday - (Spanish Prisoners), and a band that we need to get to know much better judging by this excellent (and brand new) single (The Subjects).

It’s always bonus when good things happen to great people, and that is just what the past year or so has been like for Bowerbirds. After getting scooped up by Dead Oceans records to re-release their excellent album, Hymns For A Dark Horse earlier this summer, the band have been out on the road with Bon Iver and others and having a blast in the process.

Bowerbirds have released a beautiful video for In Our Talons, sporting a dancing bowerbird, praying mantis, other wildlife, and a burning forest. “It takes a lot of nerve to destroy this wonderous earth. We’re only human, this at least we’ve learned.” Bowerbirds are heading on their way to Europe, and won’t perform in the US again until November.

Tonight in Baltimore the Sidebar has Pete Yorko & The One Man Band along with the Lexington Arrows, Geisha Lightning, Buzz Deluxe, and The International Jet Set.  In DC, the Black Cat has the wonderful Bon Iver and Bowerbirds while the Rock and Roll Hotel has Meredith Bragg, Justin Jones &

i’ve been to a lot of great shows lately that i haven’t even commented on. i blame this fact on work, being insanely preoccupied with exercise, and my extraordinarily slow transition from pc to mac (which is now complete, huzzah!). so here are some quick overviews of the wonderful musicians i’ve seen: bon iver, the bowerbirds - lee’s palace, july 22nd 2008.

A last minute call by Shana allowed me to tag along for the wonderfully exciting Bon Iver show at the Bowery Ballroom. We got there nice and early to be front center. Unlike my last visit to the Bowery Ballroom, this show reminded me why I love this venue -- Bon Iver capitalized on the Bowery's generally great sound and intimate setting and made me an overnight fan.
