Dangerous dog bill not intended for breed bans Posted in News on August 26th, 2008 at 4:47 pm by Columnist Kate Fratti State Rep. John Galloway says he wants to clarify the intent of his dangerous dog bill by adding an amendment to the bill so communities would have the right to adopt their own dog ordinances, but would not be allowed to enact breed-specific bans.

And of course it makes ZERO sense, WOOF! Here is this week’s load of news on the BS of BSL (breed specific legislation) - some rethinking their long-term position on it, others thinking to implement and yet others who have just passed BSL.

All pit bulls are bad. All rottweilers are mean. All American bulldogs are vicious. All mastiffs are evil. Pretty stupid statements, huh? Even so, that’s pretty much what communities around the country are saying when they outlaw these breeds.

I thought we were mankind’s best friend? I mean we used to be anyway and I know as far as my humans are concerned we still are. But some of the extremist groups who SAY they love us and are for us are really deluded into believing we want to be annihilated to be set [...] &

I started writing DogPolitics blog over three years ago, ignited by the issue of breed specific legislation after rescuing my dog - a "pitbull" mix - from the streets of Newark, NJ. Since that time, breed bans and other forms of breed-specific legislation have spread like wildfire across the United States, Canada and around the world.

On this day , the 40th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's assassination, it is the ultimate irony that Oprah's broadcast today will feature an "expose" on puppymills with none other than the leader of the Humane Society of the United States - Wayne Pacelle.
