browsing

There are plenty of definitions for browsing but it is generally referred to when someone is leisurely looking through, well, something, anything really.

These days, the word browsing usually refers to browsing online, so in this case, leisurely looking through web pages on web sites.

To browse the web, a web browser is used. Top web browsers include Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, Opera, Safari and Google Chrome.

Although web browsers are most often used for browsing web pages, they have become more advanced than that. With the help of scripting languages, full fledged applications can be created and then accessed through a web browsers. A popular example is web based email clients like Hotmail and Gmail.
