One week of non-blogging has passed. So put the kettle on, I have lots of words to type. Last Thursday we had our ONLY Bumblebees practice in preparement for three gigs in three days. We had three new songs to practice, and happily we pretty much made them sound good.

Today we went over to Katie and Alice's house to bounce on their trampoline in the sunshine - it was wonderful to see our friends and Olivia and Penny were there too! The girls all dressed up as Fairies and princesses, It was sunny but it was quite cold and did rain alittle bit now and again!

I have a cotoneaster in my garden which I really don’t like. In fact I want to pull it out and replace it with Holly. However last year I found out there was a decline in the bumblebee population in the UK and having noticed a lot of buzzing around the cotoneaster I realised I have a garden full of bumblebees.

I walked out in the garden with De Kooning this morning. It was mild and no longer raining. There wasn’t much wind. ‘A good day for cycling,’ I said. We looked into Hugo’s world. The plastic moose stood exactly where we had first sighted it, steadfast, implacable, and totemic.

There are nearly 9,000 known species of ants in this world, each with its own look and DNA. In order to communicate and learn more about them, scientists need some way to organize them. Just like alphabetical order can organize words, scientists organize organisms by their taxa.

To some of us, thistles are just prickly, aggravating weeds meant to be dug up and thrown away. To bumblebees, they are sustenance. To the Scots, they are the national emblem and a symbol of high honor! It seems that thistles once drove the barefoot Norsemen away from their invasion of Scottish shores.

Has anyone else out there in Americaland noticed a large number of bumblebees this spring? I see them everywhere I go here in Columbus, Ohio. Anne Raver sees many of them in Maryland. Robin threw a pillow at one in New York. The Iowa Victory Gardener reports a greater proportion of bumblebees than honeybees in Des Moines.
