burma
Burma, also known as Myanmar, is a country divided into seven states and seven divisions. These divisions are further broken down into districts, townships, wards, and villages.
Burma is a veritable "Melting Pot" or "Tossed Salad" of many different cultures and religions. The two main cultures in Burma are Buddhist and Bamar; however, each of these cultures continues to be heavily influenced by neighboring countries such as China, Laos, Thailand, India, and Bangladesh. Western culture has also had its hand in shaping the ideas and thinking of Burma, as the country spent considerable time under British Colonial rule.
Burmese, the official language of Burma, is a mixture of the Tibetan and Chinese languages. At one time one of the richest countries in all of Southeast Asia, Burma now is one of the poorest. The country's main exports are rice and oil. Although it boasts some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world, Burma still struggles with many human rights issues.
Burma was once showcased in an episode of "Seinfeld" and was also the setting for the Rambo IV movie starring Sylvester Stallone. Bloggers speaking about Burma (Myanmar) can be found at sites like mtmblog and mmblogpress.
