Don Meredith, the American football player and commentator, once said, "If 'ifs' and 'buts' were candy and nuts, wouldn't it be a Merry Christmas!"

And Mr. Meredith was absolutely right on several levels. Candy makes every party better, and if you are a card-carrying member of the "Candy Eating Club," you know that candy can brighten a child's face and even make a grown man or woman cheat a little on their diet.

Any candy maker knows that candies or sweets are very low in nutritional value and high in calories. However, it may surprise you that some candy makers have been commissioned to create candy specifically for that reason. The military often uses candy as a source of energy food for its troops on the ground precisely because it is so high in calories.
