The US Drug Enforcement Agency reports that marijuana is the most widely abused illicit drug worldwide. The prevalence of marijuana use in young adults, teens and children has made it of particular concern to drug enforcement agencies.

Medical research has developed dronabinol (synthetic THC) product, Marinol® which has been reported to reduce the nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy treatment for cancers, and also has been used to treat glaucoma.

Federal and State marijuana laws have clashed, most notably in California, where marijuana is legal in certain circumstances. Medical marijuana clinics have been raided by federal authorities, causing uproars and calls for federal reform.

Blogs on cannabis are often associated with the "pot" lifestyle and subculture, but also often discuss the medical application of cannabis. Scientific America’s blog reports on the medical applications of cannabis and the shifting views of cannabis in mainstream medical communities.
