Canon is a company based in Tokyo, Japan. It is best known for its imaging products, specifically cameras and printers, for the everyday consumer as well as businesses worldwide.


Canon has started the popular line Canon Powershot for it's digital cameras.


Canon was founded in 1937 by Saburo Uchida, Takeo Maeda, Takeshi Mitarai and Goro Yoshida and began as 'Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory,' taking its current company name in 1947.


Canon launched its first digital camera in 1984. The model was called the RC-701 and was marketed as the first still video camera and was aimed at the media market.


Canon sponsors many athletic and humanitarian events around the world. It has partnered with World Wildlife Federation, The Red Cross, and the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games to name a few.
