capital

Capital, in its purest definition as the root word of the economical and political system of capitalism, refers to the human produced goods that are useful in, or even enhance, the performance of specific tasks, most often related to economics. This is where the cliched catch phrase of something being a "capital idea" most likely comes from. Or, that a person, a country, or an authoritarian system is "only as good as its capital."

What capital is not, contrary to the most commonly held misconceptions, is currency or money — at least not in pure capitalist philosophy. A person or corporation's personal capital however, can and often does lead to making money. You can take that to the Bank.

By contrast, Marxist and socialist governments often view capital as money used to buy, sell, and turn a profit. Capital is also often used to define a geographical seat of power, such as state capitals or our nations capital.
