In a sluggish economy, it might surprise you to know that car sales have been a rare bright spot. Car sales refer to the practice of purchasing a new or used motor vehicle. Sales of new cars is an important economic indicator and taxes on those purchases are a source of revenue for local and state governments.

In an article as recent as the December 10, 2010 edition of the Washington Times, double-digit increases in car sales were touted as the spark which could start that engine right up again. The same article also reported something even rarer from the car sales industry — job growth.

Even so, for every new invoice written for a family making the decision to open their wallets for a car sale, other less certain factors like the ongoing price fluctuations at the gas pump remain worrisome. Recent advertising from Detroit car manufacturers may brag about a comeback. But that doesn't change the ongoing uncertainty of a slow post-recession recovery, and an overall job market that continues to be skittish at best regarding any new hires.

Still, Americans have always defined themselves by what they drive. For that reason, the future remains bright for car sales. You'll find bloggers who are bullish on car sales at sites like Auto Blog and Insider Car Secrets.
