carbon dioxide

Tag details

It has been said that Suburbia is where they cut down trees and name streets after them. As funny (and true) as this observation may be, mankind needs to start being more conscious about how we are treating the trees with which we share this precious real estate called Earth.

Of all the things we share, none is more important than Carbon Dioxide (CO2). Carbon Dioxide is used by plants during photosynthesis to make sugars and is also used to produce other organic compounds needed for plant growth and development. Carbon Dioxide is produced by humans (as we breathe). This symbiotic relationship has been a delicate symphony since life began on earth.

Too much Carbon Dioxide can be a bad thing. This colorless, odorless, greenhouse gas can be a killer. Human activities such as the combustion of fossil fuels and deforestation have caused the atmospheric concentration of Carbon Dioxide to increase by about 35% since the beginning of the Industrial Age. Many strategies have been implemented to try to decrease the levels of Carbon Dioxide that humans produce. Bio fuels, pellets, and bio ethanol are all gaining popularity as a safe, reliable means of cutting down on CO2 emissions.
