carbon footprint

Usually, when people start talking about carbon footprints and the effect humans are having on the environment, there is a lot of shaking of heads in dismay and a lot of clucking of tongues. Ever since Al Gore's documentary film An Inconvenient Truth, carbon footprint has become a household phrase and a buzzword among politicians and lobbyists. It seems to be a concern that is at the forefront of most people's minds.

A carbon footprint is actually a subset of our overall ecological footprint. A carbon footprint has been described as the total set of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions caused directly and indirectly by an individual, organization, event, or product. More specifically, it is the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by an individual, organization, event, or production.

The main problem people run into when trying to reduce their carbon footprint is expense. Solar energy, wood pellets, and hybrid cars are not cheap. It has not been until just recently that people have been able to reduce their carbon footprint and still save some Presidential Flash Cards.

Bloggers speaking about the carbon footprint can be found at sites like mycarbonfootprint and ecovillagegreen.
