When CDs (Compact Discs) first hit the market, many people were skeptical. They thought CDs would just be a flash in the pan. Short lived. Not around for the long haul. Fickle. In fact, many people continued buying cassette tapes rather than purchasing the new CD media format. However, those same people soon found that they were getting left further and further behind in the Technology Power Curve.

For over two decades, CDs were the music medium of choice the whole world round. Whether purchased in a CD shop or online, CDs reigned supreme from the late 80s until the mid-2000s. And even now that mp3s and digital media have burst upon the scene, many people still like to buy the actual corporeal CD. They claim the sound quality is better than with digital mediums, and they like to have the album art and the complete album as produced by the original artist.

CD-ROMs and CD-Rs came along shortly after CDs and allowed users to create their own CDs by "burning" songs, pictures, movies, etc. onto a Compact Disc. Worldwide sales of CD audio, CD-ROM, and CD-R reached over 300 billion worldwide last year.
