With each passing day the amount of information contained in a single spreadsheet, slide, document is growing. Thanks to demanding bosses, clients and colleagues, we are now supposed to provide all the relevant information in as much less space as possible. This is where micro charting or light weight data exploration has become a rage.

In U.S. Job Market Skid Chart, Tony of Support Analytics presents a chart from Business Week. The chart shows change in employment figures in nonfarm job sectors compared to a year ago. Tony thought the use of human figures instead of solid bars was distorting and confusing.

The News Trading Program executed its first news trade for the month in the USD/CHF market this morning. The Swiss CPI reading was released lower than expected this time round. We successfully captured our first target +25 pips, but unfortunately due to the larger-than-expected price retracement, the 2nd position was out only at +13 pips.

I charted the NASDAQ NMS Composite Index ($COMP) for the past year’s daily price action ending August 29th, 2008.  At a glance this chart could look like it’s leaning bullish, but when you zero in on some details that bull might not be a good buy.

Several people have blogged about using the Google charts api from PowerShell, but everyone seems to be using the “simple” numerical encoding, so I figured that as the first step of my own google chart api wrapper module I would start out by writing up a simple encoder.
