The Chicago Bears professional football franchise was a charter member of the National Football League. Starting life as the Decator (IL) Staley's in 1920, founder George Halas relocated the team to Chicago in 1921 and renamed it the Chicago Bear's the following year.

The Bears, who play at Soldier Field on Chicago's famed lakefront, have won nine National Championships and produced 26 Hall-of-Famers, including Halas, Dick Butkus, Mike Ditka, Gale Sayers and Walter Payton. Ditka, who played for the bears from 1961-1966, went on to coach the team for a decade (1982-1992), including their 1995 Super Bowl win against the San Francisco '49ers.

The rivalry between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers is the longest and fiercest in pro football, dating back to their first meeting in 1921. Both teams play in the NFC North conference and face off twice a year.
